4 Tips For Cleaning Your Wood Blinds

Home & Garden Blog

Wood blinds make a great addition to any home since they are naturally beautiful. Plus, you can choose from a wide range of colors since wood can easily be painted over while still retaining that natural look. You just need to be sure that you are cleaning them properly. Here are four tips to help you clean your wood blinds:

  1. Don't Get the Blinds Wet: Wood blinds should not get wet because the blinds can start to rot and deteriorate. As a result, you should avoid using water to clean the blinds. You also should never directly spray cleaner on the blinds, but instead spray it on a rag before using it.
  2. Dusting Is Best: To avoid getting the blinds wet, dusting is your best bet. You should dust regularly. Every day would be ideal since it will prevent debris and excessive dust buildup that could stick to the blinds, making it more difficult to clean them later. When you have wood blinds installed, a small feather duster makes a great investment. However, you could also use a sock that you place over your hand, and just rub down the blinds gently.
  3. Use a Wood Cleaner: When you do buy a cleaner to use every once in a while for the blinds, you want it to be a cleaner that is directly meant to be used on wood. This way, the chances of the wood becoming ruined from the moisture is significantly less since these cleaners are made to dry out quickly without leaving any time for moisture to soak into the wood.
  4. Vacuum for a Deeper Clean: When you deep clean your wood blinds, consider using a vacuum attachment. This is going to remove any excess dirt and debris buildup so that you don't have to use as much cleaner to wipe them down. Once you are done vacuuming each slat, do a small dusting, and then use cleaner anywhere that it is needed.

Keeping these four tips in mind is going to ensure that you don't have to worry about replacing your blinds for a long time to come. This way, they will continue to add a natural beauty to your home, which can also help retain home value and appeal if you decide to sell your home in the near future. Stepping into Greenhouse Gardening

My name is Michelle Landon. When I was a little girl, I loved helping my mother and grandmother in the garden. My passion for gardening grew, and in my adult years, it became my number one hobby. I have lived in apartments and mastered the art of having container gardens. I now have over an acre of land and can grow just about anything. My dream was to one day have a greenhouse and be able to grow all the flowers my heart desired. Six years ago I got my first small greenhouse and was able to start bringing my gardening dream to fruition. Today I have two greenhouses and working in them is even better than I imagined. I would like to share my greenhouse gardening experiences with you.
