Which Type Of Mattress Is Right For You?

Blog

If you are in the market for a new mattress, you may be overwhelmed with the options now available. And while you may be intrigued by "mattress-in-a-box" options available online, many people are reluctant to spend money on the unknown. Mattresses are made from several materials today and each provides different advantages and disadvantages. This primer will provide you with the basic information you need to choose a mattress that is right for you.

Foam Mattresses

A mattress made from foam may be ideal for sleepers who want their mattress to conform to their body. Foam mattresses are an especially good choice for people who want support but also want to relieve pressure on their joints.

For example, side sleepers often end up tossing and turning repeatedly throughout the night on firmer mattresses, causing their shoulder and hip joints to get sore. A foam mattress can eliminate this problem. If you are a stomach sleeper or tend to get hot while you sleep, a foam mattress probably isn't your best choice. Stomach sleepers may feel suffocated as the foam envelops and conforms to their body while those who get hot may find the foam increases their body temperature even more. However, a gel mattress topper on a foam mattress will help you stay cooler. A foam mattress may also pose difficult for older individuals or those with mobility problems who have difficulty getting out of bed.

Innerspring Mattresses

An innerspring mattress is a traditional mattress that has metal coils in the center sandwiched between layers of other materials that provide soft comfort. On some innerspring mattresses, each coil occupies its own individual "pocket." This construction method reduces the amount of motion transfer when one sleeping partner moves.

If you are a stomach sleeper, a dense innerspring mattress is quite firm and is ideal as your face won't be buried and your breathing impeded like it can be from softer mattresses. If you and your sleeping partner are both restless sleepers and move frequently throughout the night, an innerspring mattress will probably not provide the best sleep.

Adjustable Air Mattresses

Adjustable air mattresses are essentially two separate mattresses formed into one mattress. They have dual controls which allow each user to increase or decrease the firmness on each side. An adjustable air mattress is ideal for couples who have different firmness preferences. This type of mattress is also great for those who move around a lot while they sleep or those who are back sleepers. An adjustable air mattress tends to be a bit more costly than other types of mattresses, however. This is because the air bladder system and the motor that operates each side adds to the price.

Stepping into Greenhouse Gardening

My name is Michelle Landon. When I was a little girl, I loved helping my mother and grandmother in the garden. My passion for gardening grew, and in my adult years, it became my number one hobby. I have lived in apartments and mastered the art of having container gardens. I now have over an acre of land and can grow just about anything. My dream was to one day have a greenhouse and be able to grow all the flowers my heart desired. Six years ago I got my first small greenhouse and was able to start bringing my gardening dream to fruition. Today I have two greenhouses and working in them is even better than I imagined. I would like to share my greenhouse gardening experiences with you.
